Baker Hughes moves out of Alice, 50 jobs cut

Bad news for Baker Hughes employees in Alice, Texas, where the company has closed its hydraulic fracturing facility. The shutdown that occurred Monday means 50 folks are out of work. However, Baker Hughes has claimed that some of those jobs are moving to San Antonio.

South Texas television station KIII-TV reported that some employees were laid off Monday while others were given the chance to move to San Antonio. There was not a number of job migrating to the San Antonio campus was not released.  The city of Alice received a warning notice about the closure back on Feb. 9.

The company is giving laid off workers 60 days of pay and three months of insurance benefits. The company said in a statement to KIII-TV that it “must reduce its cost structure companywide in order to remain competitive in this challenging business environment.” They added that the “company is making every effort to minimize workforce reductions, and therefore is making the difficult decision to close or consolidate facilities in certain areas.”
