Drivers benefit from low gas prices

Oil prices recovered slightly Monday, as the price of U.S. crude rose to $29.65 a barrel after previously hitting $28.36.

While low prices have caused producers to struggle, the resulting low gas prices have been a boon to motorists.

Texas Gas Prices lists the average price of gas in Texas at $1.67 per gallon. On Monday, a Conoco station in Spring, Texas, held the lowest prices with $1.29 per gallon.

As of Monday afternoon, the national average gas price was $1.89, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

Drivers in Houghton Lake, Mich., were treated to ultra-low prices, fueled by a local gas war.

At the Bacon and Bridge Market, the price of a gallon of gasoline fell to 47 cents Sunday evening, according to GasBuddy. The reported price was well below the national average of $1.89 a gallon.

A Marathon and Citgo gas station each sold gas for 95 cents a gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy.

The phenomenon didn’t last long.

By Monday, gasoline prices at Beacon & Bridge Market rose to $1.43 per gallon. Citgo sold gas at $1.43 and Marathon sold gas $1.47 per gallon.
