Shale boom can shield US from hurricane problems

Another benefit of the US shale boom: America is much less susceptible to fuel supply problems from hurricanes. An article from United Press International outlines how the prevalence of onshore drilling prevents potential energy disruption from tropical storms. Hurricane Katrina, for example, shut down half of all Gulf of Mexico production from offshore drilling in 2005. As the Atlantic storm season ramps up, the US can be confident it will make up for any shortfall.
