24hrs until the fracking ban, other cities are joining in

On Tuesday, the fracking ban in Denton, Texas takes effect and other communities in North Texas are joining in.

According to the Associated Press (AP), Reno is one of several communities that may challenge the oil and gas industry’s right to frack in their communities.  Several cities northwest of Fort Worth have experienced earthquakes that are believed to have been caused by injection wells near drilling sites.

Michael Webber, the deputy director of the Energy Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, expressed to the AP that the fracking ban in Denton has become “a proxy for this big war between people who want to stop fracking and people who want to see it happen.”

The oil industry stated it will take legal action against those who try to prohibit fracking and has already filed for injunctions against the ban in Denton.
